Saint-Pétersbourg [Saint-Petersburg]
A city set on water, as though someone had decided it would hold there, against all logic. The canals, the Neva, the Baltic at the end of it: water has the last word.
In winter, light grazes the façades for a few hours at most, then gives way. The gold of the palaces fades slowly into grey. Nothing is ever quite lit, nothing is ever quite dark.
To photograph here is to accept waiting.
