Manhattan moves fast (a cliché, I know), but it happens to be true. NYC never tires of being photographed. You have to choose: the angle, the hour, the strip of sky between two façades.
Light comes down as into a fault line, late, slanting, then gone all at once. The verticals hold everything together, the steel and the glass. Walking is the only way to grasp the scale.
I came without preconceptions, and the city did the rest, and won me over.
